On today’s Spotlight Series we’re featuring the work of Orlando, Florida based makeup artist Kristina Waring. Kristina, who originally started in hair and gradually moved to both hair and makeup, is taking the Orlando fashion world by storm. Her editorial resume includes styling for Winter Park Fashion Week, the Florida Motion Picture & Television Association, Mercedes Benz and countless others. You can find her attending workshops around the United States, most recently the 2011 Intercoiffure Fall Atelier in New York City, as well as workshops around Central Florida.
We sat down with Kristina to chat about her life in makeup, hair and tips she gives her clients.
When did you start in the industry?
I started going to hair shows when I was a baby with my grandmother and mother. They both have been working in the industry for years so I was constantly inspired to follow in their footsteps. I officially began my career in hair and makeup in 2008.
What made you decide to focus on make up?
Makeup has always been a huge passion of mine since I was young. I love being able to enhance the natural beauty of my clients and make them feel good about themselves. It’s my favorite part of my job, confidence is key. When you look good, you feel good!
Where do you find your inspiration from?
My absolute biggest inspiration comes from the beauty trade shows and conferences I attend. I love watching the artists on stage transforming and creating the newest trends in hair and makeup. It’s so inspiring to be surrounded by artistic individuals who share the same passion. And with all the loud music and enthusiasm, it all just gets so exciting.
What are your top tips for keeping a healthy face?
Stick to the daily basics – nothing fancy! Cleanse, tone and moisturize. I recommend the Philosophy Purity Line, it’s a go to line for me and I love it.
Make sure you are removing your makeup every night before you go to bed. Lastly, drink plenty of water for a smooth, clear and fresh complexion when you wake up in each morning.
Favorite brand of make up?
It’s so hard to pick a favorite – I tend to pick and choose from several different lines. Makeup Forever, MAC Cosmetics and Marvaldi are my top choices.
